For our younger guests who haven’t discovered the value in an idle afternoon, there are many different activities located inside the gates of Leatherwood Mountains to fill the void. Encourage your children to explore the meadow. Catch minnows and crawdads in the creek, or hunt animal tracks along the bank. Whether on foot or by bicycle, Leatherwood’s meadow provides a safe environment for children to explore on their own. Older children might enjoy taking a hike into the foothills of the Blue Ridge. A leatherwood trail map can provide days of the most beautiful hiking one could ask for. Kids can also play tennis, swim in the pool, ride horses (*see requirements), fish and play basketball all within our resort!

For fun outside the gates Elk Creek is a fun little float trip in a tube, or try your hand at catching some fish of the local variety. The towns of Boone and Blowing Rock contain a plethora of things to do for the entire family. Your children will remember their Leatherwood adventures for years to come. We would guess that they will be asking to return again and again!

LEAD LINE RIDES
For the younger kids (ages 2  & up) and timid adults, we now offer  lead-line rides.  This one-on-one ride will be given by a trained handler in a controlled environment on a well seasoned docile horse.  Bring the kids for a great first experience that will last a lifetime.

HORSEBACK RIDING BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Horseback Riding Birthday Parties incorporate horse rides into your child’s party! The horses are led by a wrangler of Leatherwood Mountains. In this kind of party the guests don't have to actually control the horses. It is well suited for very large groups of children or groups of very young children who are not coordinated enough to guide the horses themselves.

The cost for this type of party is $80 per horse per hour. The minimum charge is for one hour. The number of horses used depends on the number of guests and how long each guest wants to ride.  All riders wear protective helmets while riding.

We can accommodate as many children during these sessions as time will permit.

Rent our shaded picnic shelter for $35 per hour to serve your birthday cake & open presents. We have cool weather options too.
