Hi All, My mother and I stayed in Cliffside 7/9/09-7/13/09. I just wanted to let you guys know, we had a great time up there. The pictures of this house do not do it justice. We have stayed in many cabins around Boone and this one was my favorite. There is no light pollution at night up there on the ridge at all. It is so quiet and peaceful. My mother has a lung disorder, but while staying at Cliffside (since it is so high up) she was able to breath so much better. Again, thanks for helping us on our yearly trip. We will be back to see you guys!

This was our first experience taking our horses on a overnight trip and we were very anxious. This trip turned out to be everything we had hoped and more. The staff made us feel at home. Our house was beautiful and so much more. We had a great time on the trails which were mapped out great. We made new friends whom we hope to see again at Leatherwood very soon. Thanks for making one of our "bucket list " dreams come true. - "Honalee Cabin"

Your friendly smile and accommodating manner to the many questions and requests i had last week in preparation for the wedding was so appreciated.  I had to wrote to say thanks!
  Our experiences at Leatherwood and our house rentals exceeded every dream a mother has of the last days before the wedding and the giving away of her daughter.  I know the calmness  and relaxation each of us felt could not have been achieved back in Raleigh, NC at our home.
  Leatherwood frees you and takes you back to the basic "heart to heart" connection with each other & God the Creator.  What wonderful memories are now connected for me here at Leatherwood.  I imagine we will spend many vacations here in years to come!

We came about two weeks ago and stayed for 4 days. We met nothing but nice people but one person stood out to us above all others. Hugh was amazingly helpful and as nice as anyone my family has ever met. We are planning to buy a home on the mountain but he didn't know this so I know that there wasn't an ulterior motive for his helpfulness. He helped us unload our tack, feed, and hay but I know he didn't have to. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for his assistance and hope that we run into him a lot more in the near future. Thanks Hugh!

We were there for 3 day a couple of weeks ago with our mules and I just wanted to tell you that your staff was wonderful and we had a great time. The views were unforgettable. Really wish you all were not so far away but hopefully we will get to visit again.

       how  are  you  doing? I  can't  tell  you  how  much  I miss  you.  We  had  a  good  ride  home  except  that  I  could  not  stop  crying   because  of  how  much  I  miss  you. I  wish  that  I  could  barlle  race  as  well  as  you  do.  I  wish  that   we  could  have  you  come  down  and  see  my  pony  and  watch  me  ride  and  maybe  even  could  have  a  dressage  lesson.  miss   you  tons. Hello, Hugh,
We spoke last week about rentals from your stables for riding at Leatherwoood on Saturday.  My husband and I are gearing up for our annual trip to a ranch in Montana to ride for a week, and we wanted as much 'time in saddle' in the mountains as we could get to be sure all those muscles are ready. 

I wanted to pass along our compliments on your riding facility.  Leatherwood itself is really great, but we found your rental facility to be the highest quality that we've ever come across.   Due to eldercare obligations we do not have the ability to own our own horses right now, so getting away to ride is very important to us.   We've rented at maybe 10 facilities in NC and VA, and I can say without question you maintain the nicest riding set-up we've come across.  We noticed the tack was in great condition and the horses were of much higher quality that we've ever seen offered for rental.  Todd made the comment, "We treat them as if they were our own." and it shows.   The horses were all healthy, well-groomed and their feet were in good condition.   We cannot really enjoy a ride if the horses are not well treated and it saddens me that all rental horses are not treated like yours.  It was a pleasure to ride a rental horse that needed only a touch of the reins or leg pressure to move him into place. 

A word of compliment also for Mary Lou and Todd.  Tim and I are certified instructors of an outdoor sport that carries significant risk, so we recognize specific efforts that guides may make to ensure that their guests remain safe and comfortable.  They were friendly, made us feel welcome and took care to be sure we enjoyed our ride.  They kept a good eye on the novice riders while allowing them to enjoy their ride.  And, while it wasn't entirely necessary, when some folks for the afternoon ride were a little late we appreciated that they took care to see that we were not shorted on our ride.

You do a really nice job in your facility, and we look forward to riding there again before we leave for Montana at the end of August if we can work it out.   And, once we're back, we'd love to talk with you about whether you might be able to arrange for a guide to do a half-day trail ride if we gave you enough notice.   We want to see more of your beautiful mountains!

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you all just how much me and my family enjoyed staying there last week.  We rented the Dreamtime cabin, and the time that we spent at Leatherwood was the most relaxing vacation time that I have taken of all of my vacations.  Along with my immediate family was my Sister-in-law and family & my Mother-in-law.  When we left, I truly felt like we had reconnected as a family and bonded like never before.  Because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, we were able to just sit around, eat, take walks & just enjoy one another.  The young kids and the "almost" teenagers all said that they had a blast and want to come back soon.  Since I have been back at work, I have shared this experience with my co-workers and friends and have given them the website to check you guys out.  I think that every family deserves to get away and enjoy the outdoors that Leatherwood Mountains  has to offer.  I just want to say, "THANK YOU" for having such a great place for people to come and enjoy time away from our busy lives.  It really made me appreciate what life is really about!  Please pass this along to all of the folks there, as everyone was so friendly and made us feel very welcome.

This was our fourth year coming to Leatherwood for our vacation. The only difference this time was we spent it down by the creek in our new horse trailer. As always, the people were friendly and the mountain setting was wonderful. We especially enjoyed fishing, wading and tubing in the creek. What a way to spend a vacation! See you next year!

I enjoyed my stay by the creek and at the barn during the last couple of days.  It was my first visit to Leatherwood and everyone was hospitable, helpful, and courteous toward the horses (i.e. the construction traffic on the roads).  How nice it was to be respected!  The grounds are kept so tidy ~ it was a pleasure to be there!  I didn’t know if it was necessary to muck out my stall upon departure but I did it anyway.  I’ll definitely be back!    Thanks to all!
